Kitchen Secrets from India: In Store this Week

This week, we are launching the long-awaited collection of recipes from Southern India, collated during Susie’s numerous design trips to the region. These delicious, plant-based recipes are attributed to Mrs Ravi, whose husband runs the textiles factory, where we have been creating our beautiful handmade textiles for over a decade now. Over these years, Mrs Ravi has been steadily introducing Susie to the magic of south Indian cooking and her exquisite creations are the reputed highlight of her trips. Having sampled so many delicious dishes from this rich store of recipes, it has long been Susie’s desire to compile them into a cookbook.

In the Tamil Nadu region of Southern India, cooking is a central part of the day-to-day pleasure of family life, expressed through recipes and stories which have been handed down from generation to generation. Mrs Ravi’s love of cooking was passed down from her parents, who ran a chutney-making business and Ravi, a pillar of the local community, is equally passionate about cultivating fresh flavourful produce on his farms. Now these culinary traditions are being passed on to their daughters Sowbi and Megha, thus the tradition of sharing kitchen secrets lives on.

There is very little meat in authentic southern Indian cuisine and the recipes are predominantly vegan, filled with fresh plant-based ingredients. Although chilli is a staple ingredient, this does not mean the dishes are overly spicy. Instead, they are packed with fresh, aromatic flavour with a delicate heat that does not overwhelm the palette.

The book makes a fantastic Christmas gift and is available in stores from this weekend onwards, priced at £9.95
